Crab Farm La Somme Rouge Hawkes Bay 2013
This wine pays tribute to fallen soldiers in one of the largest battles in World War One. A beautiful blend of equal proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec and a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine portrays sweet berry fruit characters with a generous mid palate and subtle hints of truffle and a beautiful smoky oak tannin finish.
The fruit for the La Somme Rouge combines two of Crab Farms vineyards: The home block at the winery site and the Shingle Pit located in the Esk Valley.
Grapes are fermented in open top stainless steel vessels and pumped over twice daily. Post fermentation the grapes are then pressed and transferred to a combination of both old and new French oak barriques for malolactic fermentation and maturation.
